What a happy and sweet Airdale/Schnauzer mix Juno is! At approximately 6 years old (shelter vet said 6.5 and local vet guessed 5.5..so we've compromised at 6) and just about 40 lbs. Juno is the most loving meeter & greeter ever. We all know that when the wag starts at the tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle...that Juno is greeting either a beloved friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. Juno is so warm and friendly (while being a bit shy initially) that she always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a lifelong friend. Both humans and other dogs are drawn to Juno for her positive attitude and kind ways - no human friend can keep from petting Juno's soft coat (sorry about the sad shelter photos of this beautiful dog...we'll update with a photo that shows off this gorgeous girl properly) and enjoy observing her obvious love affair with life. It is this love of life that motivates us to put Juno through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Juno has tested low HW+ and Farfel's has volunteered to save this very sweet girl. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking a wonderful family to lovingly care for Juno through this process as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails quiet time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this loving girl as she grows heartworm-free. Juno obviously stood out in a high-kill shelter of approximately 400 dogs as Farfel's was contacted in a plea to save her life. The shelter personnel had the following to say about sweet Juno: Juno came to BARC as a stray and is estimated to be between 6 and 7 years old. She has a very unusual demeanor for a shelter dog and we would love to know her story. Juno was clearly the love of someone's life! She is far too sweet and affectionate to have ever had harsh treatment. She also has no fear of people like so many street dogs do. Juno is the perfect size to be a Colorado hiking dog at 40 lbs. And at 6 or so years old, she's the perfect age ...young enough to be active and have many years ahead and old enough to have wisdom and great behavior! Juno has a soft, Benji-like coat, and a face that will simply melt your heart. She walks almost perfectly on a leash...no issues whatsoever. It seems like someone spent lots of time and kind energy training Juno on great behavior. Outdoors, Juno seemed really curious about everything going on around her but she exhibited calm and sweet behavior the entire time. She never had any aggression of any kind and made no attempt whatsoever to escape. Juno appears to be a non-vocal dog...even with all the stimulation and other dogs, Juno never barked or whined. One thing is certain...Juno responds really well to soft and kind human touch. If you start to pet her and then suddenly stop, she'll move in closer and touch you ever so gently for more loving.. I did a couple of direct nose to nose touches with other dogs and Juno had very little reaction...and if any at all, was completely positive and appropriate. She also seemed very comfortable with dogs in adjacent runs when they'd get nose to nose through the fences. This is an all-around really amazing dog. Juno would be perfect for any family who will truly love and commit to her welfare. Other dogs seem to really enjoy Juno's demeanor that is never aggressive...only fun-loving and kind. It's very typical for a Schnauzer/Terrier to be a great and devoted companion - they're known for their sweet and kind ways. Juno would fit well into a family with older kids 10+(no tail pulling or riding please) and kind dogs...as long as the people loved and spent quality time with their pets. Juno would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that included the whole family - she is a super-smart girl who truly wants to please and great training will give her the skills to be an excellent companion dog. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this dog as well as creating a tight-knit bonding with all family members. Juno appears to be either a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup. She will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep her shining coat healthy and silky-soft. Juno isn't suggested for those with severe allergy concerns. Juno will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 12/23. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. Airedale Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Airedale Terrier is a lively, intelligent breed. Airedales are loyal and eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Airedales make entertaining pets and great working or hunting dogs. The Airedale Terrier has a dominant streak and can be very rowdy unless properly trained. Airedale Terriers may play too roughly for very small children, but usually do fine with kids if exposed to them as puppies. Airedales get along well with cats but might bully other dogs in a household with multiple pets. Airedales need a lot of exercise and long walks every day or they may act up and get into trouble.
