Airedale Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We got emails from our Colorado rescuer about one could accept that this gorgeous and very affectionate dog was about to be euthanized. Both the shelter and the rescuers were desperate to find a foster, rescue or adopter immediately for this Wheaten Terrier mix (or so the shelter and vets described Pine's breed mix) with the incredible temperament. Pine carries the coat with the golden beauty (in need of a bath and great nutrition..but just waiting to shine) and the general look of the Wheaten Terrier with the additional scruffiness of an Airdale. And as beautiful as Pine is on the outside, it doesn't compare with the love and ... (Read More)good-will that flows from the heart of this 18-24 month old, approximately 25 lb guy (we'll get an exact weight as soon as possible). As our rescuer drove away from the dreary, high-kill shelter, Pine was so filled with relief that he climbed into the front seat, laid his paw on Andrea's' leg, breathed a huge sigh of relief and fell fast asleep. He slept all the way to the vet's office for his assessments...and passed with flying colors! Pine went to his foster home to be reminded about respectful house behavior. Pine's great foster mom commented on how sweet and laid back this handsome boy is. She considers him to be a great choice for any family...and he seems to love gentle kids and dogs. Pine also loves fun and is playful and sweet! Pine's time in foster waiting for his transport is time well spent..he appears to be bouncing back from any trauma he suffered at the shelter. We does his foster family...that with a loving, nurturing and committed home..Pine will leave his sad start far behind. With consistent leadership, Pine's natural self-confidence will emerge. He will settle into his new life with an open to anything attitude of a puppy. While he may be initially shy, once he's assured...he will emerge with all the joy that's living inside of him. Since Pine has gotten an A for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...he's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision Pine in a home either with older children who can play with and love Pine with a gentle touch or in a home with active retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted pup. We would never want Pine in a situation where she's alone for many hours. Instead we would love for him to be taken along on hikes (he would be overjoyed and a natural on the trails), adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. He's almost impossible not to fall in love a young guy, Pine is a blank slate just waiting for direction to be the best adult dog he can be. Pine also travels like a champ - he loves nothing more than to come along on errands, hikes and any adventure that keeps him together with those he loves. He would also be a natural to come along on vacations or getaways...he's so pleasant with everyone that he attracts friends everywhere he goes. Pine is said to be a non-shedding pup whose coat will grow in full and soft once he gets the gift of great nutrition and regular grooming. Pine will be arriving in Denver on 9/20. PIease Read Before Adopting an Airedale in Colorado
Airedale Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Airedale Terrier is a lively, intelligent breed. Airedales are loyal and eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Airedales make entertaining pets and great working or hunting dogs. The Airedale Terrier has a dominant streak and can be very rowdy unless properly trained. Airedale Terriers may play too roughly for very small children, but usually do fine with kids if exposed to them as puppies. Airedales get along well with cats but might bully other dogs in a household with multiple pets. Airedales need a lot of exercise and long walks every day or they may act up and get into trouble.

lnteresting Airedale Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
Airedales were used by the British Army in World War I to carry messages to soldiers behind enemy lines. Airedale terriers were first bred to hunt otters in the valleys of the River Aire. Airedales were once the dog of choice for police search and rescue work. Two Airedales were lost when the Titanic sank. Airedales were sometimes used by commoners to poach game from the estates of their wealthy masters.
